Many links propose that Hardware Acceleration be disabled.

I have done this on and off many times but see no beneficial effect whatsoever.

Is this an illusion on the part of some geeks, if not why do they propose disabling it  ?

It’s sometimes a good cure for particular problems. The utility of hardware acceleration depends entirely on the way your system is built.

A lot of Browsers will utilise it for example when playing videos or sound or both.

Basically it’s a handoff of tasks from the CPU to more specialised processors in the computer.

If you don’t have high end or specialised components then there is no benefit to be had but there can be problems if the app tries to use hardware acceleration, hence the advice sometimes given to disable it in specific circumstances.
