For various reasons, I’ve come across customers who needed to stop Windows 10 updates. Previous versions of Windows allowed you to do so, but with W10, Microsoft has done everything in their power to prevent you from disabling auto updates. Typical methods that you find on the net only work until MS “calls home” and reverts the settings you changed to disable auto updates.

I’ve been using the following method for about 3 months on 5 computers, and W10 updates have been stopped in their track.

So if you have a specific need to disable W10 updates, then here you go:

This 5+MB tool might do it. Warning: you need to read and understand what you are required to do. If you don’t, skip trying to use it. I suspect you have to see when it is updated because MS keeps changing the rules as far as updating and services.

This is the thread I found that pointed to this tool.

That’s good to know. I had to turn off updates on my W10 machine. Disabling the Windows Update service didn’t work as this article points out. I pulled the Ethernet cable. Worked for me. Of course I can’t access the Internet with it anymore.
