Computer Running extremely slow (CHKDSK problem?)2021-04-20T08:37:35+01:00

Basically, I had to shut down my computer yesterday improperly (hitting the power switch on and off) and when I came back to open it later that day, it wouldnt load up properly and instead gave me a message that said:
“Checking file system on C: The type of file system is NTFS. One of your disks needs to be checked for consistency. You may cancel the disk check, but it is strongly recommended that you continue.”
(I later find out that this process is called “CHKDSK” if that helps you guys figure out my problem)
So I let my computer do this disk check but 1 hour later nothing is happening and I had to improperly power it off again since it was stuck at this screen. I then open it up again and the same stuff happens so I let it run for 8 hours and it was still was doing its “disk check”.
Eventually after powering on and off a couple times, I hit F8 to try to finally properly run my computer as im booting up and I let it run a diagnosis that says it will fix problems with my computer. This takes half an hour but finally my computer starts up normally so I think my problem is solved. Unfortunately, my computer is running extremely slow. I can’t open up the internet. It even took me 5 minutes to open up the folder from which my university documents are located. So at this point I start searching to find my problem.
Here are the two potential solutions I found:
1. I have to figure out a way to switch from PIO mode to DMA mode (I tried following the steps to do this but apparently my computer doesnt have these modes or some bleep like that. I have windows 7 if that helps). This seems the most likely solution considering that people have been mentioning how slow PIO mode is compared to DMA mode. The problem is that I cannot enable this DMA mode on my computer for some reason.
2. My hard-drive is failing. (I’ve had this comp for 4ish years now)
3. Run a system restore (which isnt working due to an error code “0x80071A91”)
Anyone have any suggestions/idea/tips/etc? Oh and before anyone says anything, I’m a complete idiot for shutting down my computer improperly repeatedly but I honestly had no other choice.
I’m also running the CHKDSK (back to square 1 hehe) right now for my C drive even though Command Prompt told me there were no dirty files in it. I plan to let this run for up to a day (if needed) but right now its stuck on “Windows will now check the disk” so I’m really unaware of whether something is actually supposed to be happening. Is there some sort of progress bar that’s supposed to be shown?
Thanks, I really appreciate any help that I can get :)

I would like for you to burn the following to a CD: Data Life Guard Tools and boot from it. It will scan your drive for any errors such as bad sectors. Please do the extended test.

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, I am stuck in an endless CHKDSK cycle which prevents me from accessing my computer. Safe mode does not work either because it gets stuck trying to load the files. CHKDSK isn’t even working properly because it is frozen at “Windows will now check the disk” with no progress being made in a 15 hour period. Does anyone have any advice for me? I bypassed this CHKDSK cycle last time by hitting F8 and “repairing my computer” but this time it’s not working. It’s extremely frustrating being stuck in a CHKDSK cycle with no progress even being made in CHKDSK itself.

Just found the hard drive info.

Hard Drive Name: WD10EARS-22Y5B1 ATA device

Partition Label: Gateway

Partition size: 911.4GB

Hopefully this is enough information for you to work with :)
